Etsy Shop Launch Classes in Chicago
In 2005 the founders of Etsy launched its e-commerce site with the mission of bringing makers and buyers closer together -- a perfect antidote in a world of mass production and big box stores. Today, Etsy has reached over 150 countries, and hosts a diverse marketplace that features the goods of tens of thousands of sellers.
If you are a hand-made crafter or vintage collector, chances are you want to bring your buyers closer to your unique goods. Go on a guided tour of Etsy.com with Handmade Educator Rebecca George, who attended a course at Etsy in June 2012 about selling on the site. Rebecca will discuss what you need to set up a shop, how to get started making your first sales, where to go when you need help and more! Don’t forget to bring questions about selling your work online!
Please note this is an in-person class, not an online tutorial.
Paper and pen for notes; laptop optional
I'm so glad I took this course. I feel like there was so much information I didn't even know that I would need to know, and now that I am aware of it I am set up for success. I was concerned that the class would be covering a lot of basic information that I already knew, but it wasn't like that at all. It was a lot of very in-depth information that I found extremely useful. Thanks!
First, I will state that I do not yet have a shop on Etsy. This class gave me a jump start on the Etsy concept. I now have a "to-do" list in preparation for opening a shop. The handouts gave me much food for thought regarding how I want to present myself and what I can expect as a seller. The glossary will save me hours of guessing what some of the functionality of the site is: e.g., what's a treasury?? Certainly worth 20 bucks!
Rebecca did a bang up job once again! She went through each of our shops one at a time and gave us individual feedback. To have such a seasoned professional help you with every aspect of your shop is priceless. Rebecca was thorough, considerate and full of knowledge. This class was definitely worth taking for anyone in any stage of running their etsy shop.
Rebecca was great! She gave us some great general tips for our shops and also went through each participant's shop and gave us detailed feedback. It was really interesting to also be able to see other people's shops, what was successful for them, and to brainstorm ideas together! Would highly recommend the class for both Etsy beginners and people who have been selling!
A Cincinnati native, Rebecca studied Art History & Geology at the University of Michigan. From there, she earned a degree in Fashion Design and Marketing from the American Intercontinental University in London, England. Highlights of her career include having several pieces from her graduation collection featured in the international fashion magazine i-D (UK, Feb. 2007) and working on men’s leather pouches for the movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age (which won an Oscar for Best Costume). Her brand "purpleandlime" is a line of super-fun womenswear, jewelry, and accessories based in Chicago. She has been successfully selling her line on Etsy and in shops for four years, and enjoys teaching others about online handmade selling!
