The Loop Interior Architecture Walking Tour takes you on a creative route that weaves through buildings and secret short-cuts. 95% of the tour takes place inside, making it great for any kind of weather.

Tour guests share iPads with archival images of maps, historic photos and documentary video clips while the tour guide shares stories of Chicago history. Our fun and passionate tour guides are highly trained professionals with degrees in architecture, design, art history and history. They know how to connect with a group, spark imaginations, and communicate new concepts in relating to architecture.

Looking at the outside of buildings, such as with architectural boat tours, can be a great first step in engaging with Chicago architecture. For the next level of connection with Chicago architecture, go inside of the buildings. You will appreciate Chicago architecture from new perspectives. From the interiors, you can truly experience architectural space rather than from the more isolated perspective of a downtown sidewalk.

We are a group of educators, historians, artists and story-tellers. Founder Amanda Scotese launched Chicago Detours in July 2010 after close to a decade of travel in Italy as a Tour Guide and Guidebook Researcher with Rick Steves’ Europe. She decided to bring her travel expertise back home with tour experiences that are fun, educational, and truly make us feel connected with our grand city. Our professional Chicago tour guides are highly trained and educated, and we know how to spark discussions and create a lively group dynamic on our public and private group tours of Chicago. Today we are a community of Chicagoans passionate about sharing the architecture, history, and culture of Chicago through the Chicago Detours blog and our guided walking and bus tours.

Our tour guide, Elizabeth, did a fantastic job guiding us through the history of the city. Our tour was at-capacity but we had no trouble following along as we toured the Loop.

I love Chicago Detours! This was the second tour I've done with them, and they're so friendly and knowledgeable. We got to explore a fair bit of the loop, learn about a lot of the history, and just have a great time. I even got to learn things about the pedway, which was always a mystery to me. Highly recommend!

Ellen did a great job on the loop interior walking tour. It was a good mix of pure fact and Chicago folklore. It was a good compliment to the architecture boat cruise. I would recommend it to locals or tourists!

I took this tour over a long weekend simply because I had some spare time, it was a great way to spend 2 hours! As a Chicago native and Chicago history buff, I'm always looking for new ways to learn and this is definitely a treat! Our group was small and Elizabeth, our guide, was great! She knew so much and moved quickly but efficiently to keep you interested! Chicago Detours will definitely be getting me on board again!

Great time! The guide was fantastic. We went to the Cultural Center and a church within a skyscraper, two hidden gems downtown that I didn't even know existed! Highly recommend.

This tour was awesome!! Alex knocks it out of the park! You are transformed to different time periods while touring hidden gems throughout the Loop. Alex was not only able to provide historical context about each spot but also included not-so-well-know facts and tidbits about each stop. I am completely hooked on Chicago Detours now. I can't wait to do another tour with them!

Elizabeth did a great job giving us insight into architectural trends and cultural forces shaping Chicago's cityscape. She kept our attention throughout the tour and we enjoyed it very much. The iPads added an extra dimension to the information presented. I would recommend this tour to a friend, and already have to the Macy's employee who asked about it. Nice job!
