Join us and roll your own maki-sushi! How much do you know about sushi?


Futo-maki: this thick sushi roll consists of several ingredients. It will typically be filled with a variety of vegetables and sometimes include cooked fish like unagi or anago (fresh water eel or salt water eel).


Hoso-maki: is a skinny roll with nori (seaweed) on the outside. It usually comes with 1-2 ingredients like tuna, cucumber, thinly sliced carrots, or avocado.


California-maki: an American favorite containing crab meat (real or imitation), avocado, and cucumber. This sushi usually has rice on the outside of the roll, and nori (seaweed) in the inside.


In this class students will learn how to roll their own maki-sushi! Participants will receive a kit that includes all the non-perishable items needed to create sushi at home and along with printed recipes to follow along with and are encouraged to ask questions and try the dishes as they come together, and of course, enjoy the finished product. We recommend watching this video from Global Grub and plan to have your rice and fresh ingredients ready before class. Yes, we would have love to ship you reach fresh sushi but with varying dietary restrictions and a limited budget per gift to cover the kit, virtual instruction, and overhead this is what was possible.

In addition to the items in your sushi kits from Global Grub, you'll need:

 



Global Grub Kits include:
Sushi rice 
Rice vinegar powder
Nori
Sesame seeds
Wasabi powder
Bamboo rolling mat 

What you’ll need for the class:



Your favorite sushi fillings, we recommend sushi grade fish from a local fish market or fresh veggies!



2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
Soy sauce


Pot with lid (alt: rice cooker)
Large bowl or tray
Small saucepan
Cooking spoon or whisk
Small bowl
Plastic wrap (recommended)
Sharp knife


Cutting board

Optional items:
Pickled ginger

Wasabi


What to Bring

    The class was well planned and the supplies arrived on time. Making Sushi was something I have wanted to try for some time and now I am confident about making it! I have gone to the local Asian market and purchased more rice and supplies I will be making more Sushi from now on.

    I never thought I would ever attempt to make sushi - it seemed out of my league. This class was amazing... from all of the supplies sent to the great instruction of the Teacher, it was a top notch experience. Highly recommend!
