In this 5-week class we will get you sewing in no time! You will start by learning and practicing machine and bobbin threading, sewing straight, curved, and angled lines, different seam finishes and what they are appropriate for, inserting an invisible and regular zipper. We will also discuss how to read basic patterns, drafting basic patterns, and fabric selection for projects. We will then work on a basic woven tank top.
Skills to be learned: Threading a home sewing machine, basic sewing, seam finishes, basic pattern reading, fabric selection.
5 weeks on Tuesdays starting October 15
Class #1: October 15 7-9pm
Class #2: October 22 7-9pm
Class #3: October 29 7-9pm
Class #4: November 5 7-9pm
Class #5: November 12 7-9pm
What to Bring
Small Binder, 20 Plastic Protector Sheets, 2 yards of muslin, pins, large scissor, small scissor, seam ripper, home sewing machine (please let us know if you do not have one), pencil, paper, pen, measuring tape clear ruler 2" wide.

With 10 years experience in corporate and small business apparel, fashion designer Anna Hovet is one of most recognized names in Chicago fashion. Anna earned her BFA from SAIC (where she now teaches). After graduating, she worked for a large corporate company, Kids Headquarters, where she designed layette for Ecko, Calvin Klein, Kenneth Cole, and Target. In 2009 she founded Anna Hovet Designs, an athleisure fashion line manufactured in Chicago and sold around the world. Anna also teaches fashion illustration at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
