Meditation: An Intro to Different Methods

Meditation is one of the more powerful ways to increase our self-awareness and create greater freedom in our actions and choices. In this class, we talk about meditation's role in our daily life and have the opportunity to practice many different types of meditation in ten to twenty-minute periods so participants can try out several different forms.
Since the class uses selections from several different traditions, participants will be able to try different methods to see which works best for them.
MEDITATIONS TO BE COVERED
.....Basic Mindfulness Meditation
.....Walking and Movement-Based Meditations
.....Loving-kindness Meditation
NOTE: The 8/19 class is starting at 10:15 a.m. We will be meeting at that time in front of the class address and walking one block to the lakefront. Chicago only has a few warmer months left so it will good to get out while we can. If it rains, we will be indoors. Please be on time so we can walk together. The 15 minutes of walking and getting setup is factored into the class time so we can start at the lake at 10:30 a.m.
Different meditations are covered each month. For more in-depth study on a particular meditation practice, look for my deep dive or longer series classes.
Bring a blanket or towel for lounging outside under a tree.

Cancellation Policy
With over 15 years of experience in adult education, Filtod Walker is a master teacher whose courses and individual workshops focus on educational leadership, new teacher training, communication, presentation, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence skills. He has been a Vipassana (Insight) meditation practitioner since 1997 and is a secular teacher.
Filtod has spoken at conferences on mindfulness, emotional intelligence, stress management, cognitive distortions, instructional design, employee/volunteer correction, understanding cultural awareness, and learned helplessness.

I had a great experience with this class! The instructor was very welcoming and friendly. He was very informative about meditation and explained instructions well about each type of meditation he was introducing. I definitely felt inspired to start meditating on my own and make it part of my daily routine. It’s a perfect class if you are completely new to meditation or have had some experience. I def reccomend!!

I took “Meditation for Stress Management.” The class was really great. The instructor was personable and put everyone at ease. First he explained the different approaches to meditation, and then he walked us through different strategies. We took a few minutes to practice each new technique. Prior to taking this class I had tried meditating at home, but really needed some guidance. This class helped me understand what to “do” while meditating. I’m really glad I took this class and I absolutely recommend it.
