Japanese stab binding, also known as Fukuro Toji (bound-pocket books), is an artist's bookmaking technique that employs a simple, classic sewing process to make a softcover album. Participants in this class will learn paper folding, tearing, and sewing techniques using traditional bookbinders tools such as an awl. Each participant will leave class with at least 1 sewn albums and 2 if there is time, showcasing different stitching patterns.
Feel free to BYOB! Participants are welcome to bring their own decorative paper (at least 6" x 12") to personalize their covers.
All ages welcome

Great class! Learned the basic principles and had fun stabbing the paper with a special hole punch. Jemal was very helpful and patient. Nice location too.

Jemal was a fun and patient instructor, and the class was structured to allow plenty of time to bind books; I didn't feel rushed, and had time to play around with new ideas. I loved the books I left with, and felt like I had learned a great deal about the art, and had a solid idea if what tools and supplies I might need to make more!

I thought the class was great! Had a really fun time with the people who were taking the class and felt like it was very informative and creative. Learning this skill is so simple I could definitely do it in my free time at home which is something I look for in these classes, highly recommend!

The Japanese book binding class was great fun. It was fascinating to see the detail and artistry that goes in to hand binding a book

As my first taste of dabble, this class exceeded expectations--a really fun but intimate setting in the back of a beautiful plant shop, some structure and teaching (with background info on the origins of paper!) but plenty of room for creativity... I went solo as a middle-of-the-week, after-work creative release and could not have felt more welcome or at ease. Jemal, thank you so much for being knowledgeable and inviting, for the lively conversation and even for letting me stay a few minutes later to finish binding ANOTHER journal! Can't wait for the next class.
Thank you so much for participating and for being such a great Dabbler rookie, Roxane! We just added this feature to be able to respond to reviews. Hope you’re still Dabbling it up in Denver! #LetsDabble

The venue was very cool -- a little workshop nestled in the back of a plant shop. The crafting was made easy because the instructions were clear, the teacher was hands-on in helping, and the tools were very helpful. And there were a few options! As a newbie, I picked it up quick and was able to make two books!
