Bright Endeavors As a social enterprise of the Chicago nonprofit New Moms, Bright Endeavors engages young moms in our paid job training program where they learn comprehensive skills, gain confidence, and forge career paths, all while learning what is required to power a small business for our growing brand of artisanal scented candles. 100% of Bright Endeavors proceeds support New Moms’ nonprofit programs; providing housing, job training, college success, and family support for young moms facing barriers caused by systemic poverty.

Emily Book Gloekler is a dynamic entrepreneur and community advocate, best known as the owner of One Strange Bird, a unique gift store and art studio located in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. Her journey into entrepreneurship began in Tanzania, where she founded Kipepeo, a children's clothing line, during her maternity leave. This venture expanded to include handcrafted jewelry and artisanal products, reflecting her passion for creativity and community engagement.
In 2018, Emily returned to Chicago and took over One Strange Bird, infusing the store with new energy and a diverse range of products. The shop offers a carefully curated selection of apparel, accessories, and gifts from local and national designers, as well as serving as an event space and art studio offering a variety of classes.
Beyond her retail endeavors, Emily is deeply committed to her community. She serves on the board of the Wicker Park & Bucktown Chamber of Commerce, aiming to connect with other business owners and contribute to the growth of the local community.
Emily's diverse experiences, from working in microfinance and global health in Africa to fostering creativity and community in Chicago, highlight her dedication to making a positive impact wherever she goes.
