After receiving her BFA from Alfred University in 1992 Leslie Speicher travelled the country finally choosing Seattle, WA as her home. During her seven years there she focused on her glasswork, teaching at Pratt Fine Arts Center and assisting and studying with local and international glass artists. During this time she was a TA and AA at Pilchuck Glass School, Instructor at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, NY and Red Deer College in Alberta, CA. Residencies include Urban Glass, Hastings College and Pratt Fine Arts Center. Leslie has shown her glasswork, sculptures and installations in Seattle, NYC, Miami, Philadelphia and Chicago. Publications include International Glass Art; Richard Yelle, author.
She then decided to return to school to get her Masters so she could teach at the college level. In 2004, she received her MFA from the University of Illinois. Her teaching career took her first to the University of Miami where she taught 3D Design. Leslie then taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art as an Adjunct in the Glass Department before moving to Chicago, IL after her solo show at the Museum of Surgical Science in 2006.
No matter what she is making her aspiration is to create pieces with unique character, which are thought provoking and visually pleasing. Leslie’s interest in exploring materials leads her to create narratives between design, texture, form and color. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, designed and handcrafted by the artist.
This was such a great class. I had never done anything with class cutting and really learned a ton. I totally recommend it for anyone that loves working with glass.

Wonderful, fun class! Our instructor, Leslie (who is very talented and also a hoot!) began the class with a helpful overview of fused glass, and shared some examples for us to use as inspiration. Once we got to work, she took care to pop around to everyone’s workstation to answer questions or provide suggestions—but only if we were struggling or wanted artistic direction, which was thoughtful. If I were to take the class again, I’d plan out what I wanted to make because there was so much flexibility and so many cool supplies and colors that it took me a while to get started. I also REALLY appreciate the Collective’s commitment to safety by requiring masks, and providing protective eyewear. Looking forward to taking another class here soon!

It's a really great class. Leslie is super nice and very flexible. She wants everyone to be able to make what they envision and is always happy to help.

Oh what fun it was to make home- and handmade ornaments for the holidays. Leslie is incredibly helpful and informative about how to work with the materials, but she also gives you room to express your creativity. Definitely recommend!

Class was easy to find, fun to take, and we are so excited to pick up our fused glass ornaments.

This is my second class with the Chicago Glass Collective and I loved it. The ornament making process was easy to learn, fun to do, and the instructor is wonderful. A great holiday activity to do with someone, and creating ornaments is also a great gift to give. Highly recommend <3

Had a great time taking this class this past weekend with my 12 year old stepdaughter. We both had a fun time making creative ornaments and learning something new. Leslie was great! She was very helpful with the design my stepdaughter wanted on her first creation, she had many tips to get it done and was very encouraging to her. You can tell that she really loves what she does and was a great teacher. I can't wait to take a different class with her down the line.

A fun and interesting couple of hours. The teacher was so friendly and helpful. A great balance of helping, when needed, encouraging, and letting us get on with it for ourselves. I'd definitely go to another, or similar, class to this one. Thank you.

Enjoyable classes - teacher is patient and encouraging with people of all levels. When one of our fused snowflakes didn't turn out right, she let us remake it. Comfortable design space and lots of variety of materials provided. Definitely recommend glass classes here.

This was my first time working with glass and it was a blast. Sarah Beth is a very patient and knowledgeable instructor. Thanks to her, I never felt unsure of myself for a minute, and I had so much fun while I worked. She clearly cared that each of our projects were a success, and thanks to her guidance, I LOVE how my ornaments turned out. I loved the studio and my interest in glasswork has been piqued. I'll be back to take another of her classes, for sure.
