Event Overview

Create beautiful glass snowflake ornaments that will add sparkle to any holiday festivities. Use glass frit, in a variety of colors, to fill ceramic molds that will then be put in the kiln and fired. Everyone get to make 2 large snowflakes. Extra snowflakes (if molds are availalbe) may be created for an extra $15 for large and $10 for small. Please bring cash for extra ornaments.

All materials are provided. The bowls will be fired after class and ready one and a half to two weeks after class. Shipping is available for a fee.

No experience necessary and great for ages 14+.

Ages 14-15 must have an adult present with them for the entire class.

Ages 16+ Parent/Guardian must be present when student (ages 16-17) arrives to sign waiver before class.

Wear closed-toed shoes and bring water to drink.

After receiving her BFA from Alfred University in 1992 Leslie Speicher travelled the country finally choosing Seattle, WA as her home. During her seven years there she focused on her glasswork, teaching at Pratt Fine Arts Center and assisting and studying with local and international glass artists. During this time she was a TA and AA at Pilchuck Glass School, Instructor at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, NY and Red Deer College in Alberta, CA. Residencies include Urban Glass, Hastings College and Pratt Fine Arts Center. Leslie has shown her glasswork, sculptures and installations in Seattle, NYC, Miami, Philadelphia and Chicago. Publications include International Glass Art; Richard Yelle, author.

She then decided to return to school to get her Masters so she could teach at the college level. In 2004, she received her MFA from the University of Illinois. Her teaching career took her first to the University of Miami where she taught 3D Design. Leslie then taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art as an Adjunct in the Glass Department before moving to Chicago, IL after her solo show at the Museum of Surgical Science in 2006.
No matter what she is making her aspiration is to create pieces with unique character, which are thought provoking and visually pleasing. Leslie’s interest in exploring materials leads her to create narratives between design, texture, form and color. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, designed and handcrafted by the artist.

Leslie is the owner of Chicago Glass Collective in Chicago, IL where she also teaches and makes her work.

This is such a fun class. I was surprised to learn that we were making TWO snowflakes! I created one classic and one whimsical snowflake. The instructor is very knowledgeable in glass firing. The skill required to create the snowflakes did not exceed my ability and I can not wait to see the final product after it spends a little time in a kiln

Great class to do for winter. Using the molds to make snowflakes using fritz was great. Instructor gave good tips on how to achieve a good uniform piece. Love my snowflakes - may have to do another class at some time to make more.

I brought my match from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chicago to this class and she loved it. We can't wait to see how our ornaments will turn out in the kiln! I hadn't Dabbled since COVID became a part of our lives, but this outing felt very safe and well-managed.

I've taken a few of Leslie's classes and they are always enjoyable. This class was a chill way to spend an evening experimenting with colored frit to make a couple 5ish inch snowflakes. It was a great way to knock some holiday gifts off my shopping list. Leslie is friendly and helpful, and will let you do your thing without being intrusive. Of course if you need her help, she's right there. I look forward to taking more of Leslie's classes!

Leslie is an excellent instructor. The class was fun and relaxed -- it is a bit easier than the hand-blown ornaments class they offer, which is also something to check out! The snowflake ornaments turned out beautifully. There are a lot of colors of glass bits to choose from. I am excited to take other Dabble courses from the Chicago Glass Collective.

This review is for snowflake ornaments. Super unique, creative idea! Loved it! Details: There are molds of two different types of snowflakes. Each person creates their own color schemes for both types of snowflakes. You can be as intricate or basic as you'd like. You are provided with several tools to accomplish this. Note that you do need to pick up the snowflakes at a later date.
