Butter Classes in Chicago
Hey y'all! Have you ever wondered how to make butter? Have you ever wanted to impress a crowd of city folk by whipping out a jar of fresh, homemade butter, making them think you spent the whole day hunching over a churn? Then this is the class for you!
My class will show two modern ways of making butter with FRESH LOCAL cream, and provide tips of the trade for making sure your butter is of the highest quality and has the longest shelf life. You will make, bottle, mix in any add-ins your little heart desires, and take home your own butter to enjoy at home. You'll also get to take home the buttermilk leftover from butter-making and my buttermilk pancake recipe, so breakfast at your place will be extra delish!
Anyone can make butter (kids included!), so come one, come all!!
So, let's recap:
1. Learn to make butter.
2. Take that butter home (class takeaways include reusable Ball jars, labels, butter, and buttermilk!)
3. Eat homemade, fresh butter!
4. Repeat (in your own home, since you'll know how!)
BYOB is certainly accepted :o)
Yes! I will provide the cream, Ball jars for taking home your butter and buttermilk, labels, recipe cards, and some fun add-ins for your butter (think honey butter and herb butter)!
This class was our first experience with Dabble -- and it was so much better than we had even anticipated. Devin is truly one of the nicest people you can meet, and her class focuses not just on the activity of making butter but also teaches you about the science behind it. It was very interesting, fun and at the end we got to go home with a hefty supply of butter AND buttermilk. Well worth it!
Devin was very knowledgeable about the science behind the whole process which will make it easier to make butter at home on my own. Lots of fun and very sociable, enjoyed the class!
I wanted to do something a little different with my wife for Valentine's Day so we enrolled in this class. We knew nothing about bitters prior, except that real drink recipes call for them. We had so much fun learning about bitters - what counts as a "bitters", how to make our own, how to improve cocktails we already love with new flavors - and Devin is fantastic! She has such a great approach to teaching that even we, complete rookies, left wanting to make a dozen more bitters with different flavor combinations.
We had a great time mixing up our bitters and trying different combinations! I would recommend this class to others who are interested in learning more about bitters and how they can make good cocktails great!
Devin was the coordinator for Green City Market's childrens' programme, Club Sprouts from 2012 - 2013, and taught children of all ages (as well as their parents!) to make fresh, homemade, and locally sourced butter. She volunteers at Green City Market for several local farmers vending and marketing, and has a passion for local food, cooking, baking, and of course... making butter!
