Hey y'all! Have you ever wondered how to make butter? Have you ever wanted to impress a crowd of city folk by whipping out a jar of fresh, homemade butter, making them think you spent the whole day hunching over a churn? Then this is the class for you!
My class will show two modern ways of making butter with FRESH LOCAL cream, and provide tips of the trade for making sure your butter is of the highest quality and has the longest shelf life. You will make, bottle, mix in any add-ins your little heart desires, and take home your own butter to enjoy at home. You'll also get to take home the buttermilk leftover from butter-making and my buttermilk pancake recipe, so breakfast at your place will be extra delish!
Anyone can make butter (kids included!), so come one, come all!!
So, let's recap:
1. Learn to make butter.
2. Take that butter home (class takeaways include reusable Ball jars, labels, butter, and buttermilk!)
3. Eat homemade, fresh butter!
4. Repeat (in your own home, since you'll know how!)
|Materials to bring||
BYOB is certainly accepted :o)
|What will be provided||
Yes! I will provide the cream, Ball jars for taking home your butter and buttermilk, labels, recipe cards, and some fun add-ins for your butter (think honey butter and herb butter)!

Devin was so well organized and had such a high energy. She was really personable and knowledgable. I'm excited to take more classes from her! I loved it!
Julia K.Butter Making
This class was our first experience with Dabble -- and it was so much better than we had even anticipated. Devin is truly one of the nicest people you can meet, and her class focuses not just on the activity of making butter but also teaches you about the science behind it. It was very interesting, fun and at the end we got to go home with a hefty supply of butter AND buttermilk. Well worth it!
Heather E.Butter Making
Devin was very knowledgeable about the science behind the whole process which will make it easier to make butter at home on my own. Lots of fun and very sociable, enjoyed the class!
Audra L.Butter Making
Devin did a fantastic job explaining how to source ingredients and make butter, but also knows so much of the science behind the process. She is warm and friendly and answers all questions. Great class!
Shannon F.Butter Making
Devin was the perfect teacher--friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable. I'll definitely take more classes with her in the future. I am confident that I can replicate what we learned in the class to make more butter and buttermilk at home. I loved the hands-on aspect of this class and I think it was a good value for the price.
Lauren N.Butter Making
This class was wonderful. Devin is incredibly knowledgeable about butter and her warm and energetic personality made this class informative and a ton of fun. I would definitely take another class from Devin!

I signed up on a whim on the morning of the class and am glad I did. Devin is an amazing teacher. In addition to teaching us 3 techniques to make butter, she talked about the history of butter making & the reality of processed vs fresh butter/milk/cream. She also went the extra step to allow the class to stay late to ask questions and showed us how to make a brown butter sauce (beurre noisette). I've signed up for another class with her (Afternoon Tea) & am looking forward to it! PS - if you've never tasted fresh butter, you're in for a treat.
Courtney N.Butter Making
This was such a fun class, I learned not only about butter making but some uses for the butter and a ton about organics. I would definitely take another of her classes
Shakila M.Butter Making
Butter is a great moisturizer and Devin is a great teacher. She knows so much about local and organic food, with a focus on the Chicago area. The time flew by and I left with lots of information, in addition to my butter and buttermilk. I can't wait to take another class with her.
Whitney D.Butter Making
Learning now to make butter at home has changed my life. The instructor was so nice, full of energy and knowledgeable about butter. She even let us each wear one of her aprons. Immediately after the class my friend and I were dumfounded. How did it take us this long to go without homemade butter?! When I returned home from class I made more butter. Over the holidays I did a demonstration for family and they were amazed! I'm now infatuated with finding the perfect salt to add to my homemade butter. I have pink, grey and a special herbed concoction that I'm trying to perfect. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS!

Such a wonderful class! I learned so much on butter making and Devin shared a lot of her food expertise throughout our time together. The butter we made rivals the best butter you have ever tasted! She also showed us how to clarify butter and how to prepare beurre noisette (this is heaven!)…brown butter will become a “go to” to impress my friends and family.
I will be using this butter in my daily life. It will make all my baked goods extra special!
Looking forward to taking other classes with Devin!
Devin was the coordinator for Green City Market's childrens' programme, Club Sprouts from 2012 - 2013, and taught children of all ages (as well as their parents!) to make fresh, homemade, and locally sourced butter. She volunteers at Green City Market for several local farmers vending and marketing, and has a passion for local food, cooking, baking, and of course... making butter!
