Event Overview

Join artist Simon Gallo for an exploration of mixed media art that finds its place in the nonsensical and the amusing. Allow your imagination to roam free while you deconstruct your favorite cartoon / comic characters and creatures into surreal inventions.

In this class, we will experiment with various materials including: comic books, watercolor, ink, and acrylic. Simple image transfer techniques and the basics of composition will be covered. Leave class with an original work on wood and the knowledge and ideas to continue your mental adventure.

Simon Gallo is a graduate of School of The Art Institute of Chicago where he received a BFA with an emphasis in Art Education and holds a Special type 10 K-12 Certification from the Sate of Illinois. Simon works as the visual art teacher at Harold Washington Elementary School and works as a Teaching Artist with the following organizations: Oak Park Art League, Oak Park Public Library, and One Strange Bird. Primarily a printmaker Simon also incorporates painting and drawing into his work, which he has exhibited at numerous venues in and around Chicago.
