Event Overview
This class will teach you the secrets and basics of cooking with Ayurvedic Indian spices, plus two healthy vegan Indian dishes.
You'll learn:
- The health benefits of over 15 different spices, the oldest form of aromatherapy, and how to shop for them;
- How to best use spices in your cooking to preserve their full nutritional value;
- How to make Uppma, wheat farina stir-fried with vegetables and spices, served with chutney;
- How to make Coconut Macaroons, a sugar-free, gluten-free, raw vegan dessert for coconut lovers.
No prior knowledge of Indian cooking needed. The class includes an instructions handout, Indian spice tea, and tastings of the recipes. Come ready to ask any questions about Indian cooking and vegan/raw/gluten-free cuisine. Chef Kirti has been doing it for 40 years and knows it all!

Kirti is the chef of Arya Bhavan, Chicago's premier vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and raw Indian restaurant. She has been cooking healthy Indian food all her life. With a background in agriculture and years of experience growing organic produce on her own land in India and the U.S., she has made it her purpose to promote healthy eating for everyone.
She believes it is a great pleasure to hear people say they feel better when they eat her food and now she wants to share her knowledge and teach others how to cook healthy and delicious Indian food.
