Cyanotypes

Arts & DIY
A cyanotype is a contact print on light-sensitive paper, and is process that bridges photography and printmaking. When UV light hits treated paper, a reaction is triggered that forms an intense blue dye.
In this class, Dabblers will see historical examples of cyanotypes and demonstrations before exploring the process hands on. Weather pending, students will create prints out of doors with sunlight, as well as with our NuArc platemaker. Images can be composed from found objects, cut stencils, drawn or digitally printed transparencies, and can be exposed onto any durable paper or absorbent fabric. Color altering will be introduced through reducing, intensifying and toning techniques.
No previous experience necessary for this explorative, and playful process. Students will leave the workshop with many finished images and the ability to continue working at Spudnik Press or at home.

This class was wonderful for beginners and people with prior printing/photographic experience. Everyone enjoyed learning the history and science of cyanotypes prior to going off on our own and making. We had the opportunity to work outdoors and indoors - it was a great way to spend a Sunday. Veronica is awesome!

This class was thoughtfully arranged, and really well taught. We had a lot of time to create images, and play with different media to make cyanotype images. It was a great afternoon.

I loved this class! Veronica took us step by step through this lovely printing process. We all left with a bunch of prints and learned how we could repeat the process easily at home.

Great class and wonderful teacher! I'd read about cyanotypes previously but was intimidated by the chemicals and light-room requirements. Now I know it's something I could easily do at home. We learned the step-by-step process and had time to do several sets of our own images. Fun class! Highly recommended.

I would definitely recommend this class. Cyanotypes are really fun to make and there is so much room for creativity and experiment. It's a great mis of art and chemistry. Veronica is a great teacher, and the studio was a great space to work.
