Event Overview

Do you want to send very special holiday cards this season? We will help you design and print your own! The graphic look of a hand-carved relief print makes great greeting cards, and no prior experience is needed to transform your idea into a set of unique personalized cards.

This traditional art form uses carving tools called gauges to create an image in relief. Beginning with iconic images, traditional motifs, flora, fauna, festive patterns and stylized hand lettering, students will learn from an expert printmaker how to visualize and create their design that will work well as a print.

Students are provided a 3” x 5” linoleum block and 5 Ecowhite A6 foldover cards to print. You will learn to use gauges to carve the block of linoleum, and how to print using a press and oil-based inks. This workshop teaches many foundational printmaking skills including safe carving, ink registration, and crips clean printing.
