Upcycled Denim Throw

Note: This is a multi-session event series. By purchasing the event package, you acknowledge that you can attend all event dates included below.Make a denim throw, using a piecing and folding technique that is sturdy and highly decorative. Class participants can choose between the classic, gently rounded “Cathedral Windows” technique, or a more angular “four point star” variation. The technique is the same for both designs.
In the first class, students will start the denim “framework” of the throw. Between classes, students are encouraged to use the workshop to increase the size of the throw and to select the contrasting fabrics from the supplies at Perennial…or they should feel free to find other fabric that works with their design idea. The instructor will be happy to discuss the options for contrast, offer ideas for selection of fabric, and determine the amount needed.
In the second class, students will cut their contrasting fabric, and learn how to secure it within the denim framework. The final step will be folding and stitching down the denim to complete the throw. Expect "homework" between class sessions!
Please note, this class takes place on Saturdays, April 6 + April 27 from 10:00am - 1:00pm each day.

Even though I appeared late because of traffic and suck at sewing, Dorothy still made this a pleasant experience. Her patterns are simple, yet clever. The skill level for a barely-sewing person like me is a real challenge. But, if you don't break out into a cold sweat sitting at a sewing machine, you will do just fine. One caution is that there is considerable sewing homework between the two sessions if you would like to make the full-sized denim throw. However, that extra work is purely optional. I'm looking forward to Session 2 when we put our piecework together.
